Ty is a
grandson of Ray Hunt, born
in Elko, Nevada to Bill and
Geri Van Norman (Ray Hunt’s
eldest daughter). The Van
Norman family owns and
operates a cow -calf
ranching enterprise, in
Tuscarora Nevada. Ty’s
grandfather Charlie Van
Norman, and his dad, Bill,
both shared a love for
horses. Charlie started
raising registered quarter
horses in the 1960’s. When
Bill returned home from the
Vietnam War, they began
emphasizing the horse
program – which was
cultivated throughout the
years. After Charlie died
in 1996, a production sale
was added to the program.
In 2001 the ranch became the
1st ranch in the
northwest to receive the
honor of AQHA’s Best Remuda
award, given to ranches with
outstanding registered ranch
horses.
Ty was the
fifth generation rancher,
(who like his father and
grandfathers), found his
niche with horses. These
men were also men that found
an appreciation for Tom
Dorrance’s knowledge, and
the collection of these
men’s ideas and experiences
greatly influenced not only
Ty’s ability with a horse,
but also his character, and
his life’s perspective.
Although
there are many changes that
come with time; the men
that so boldly influenced Ty
have now passed on, and Ty
is no longer on the Van
Norman ranch, Ty remains
confident that God has
allowed him to be a part of
such great legacies, not
only for his own maturity
and benefit, but also to
gather up a storehouse of
experiences, knowledge and
ideas for the purpose of
passing it on to others.
His desire is that what he
does glorifies God and is
beneficial to those around
him, revealing God’s gift
for them.
