The Wood family ranches on land owned by their ancestors since 1820.  Wood Ranch has been home to fine ranch-bred American Quarter Horses since 1956.  With few exceptions, broodmares owned by the Woods were bred on the ranch or were bred by an AQHA Best Remuda Award recipient.

The Wood family came to the Pumpkintown community in White County, Arkansas, up Little Red River in 1820 from Tennessee.  This land has been owned, ranched and farmed by the Wood family continuously since that time.

The Wood family has always been involved with livestock and land, including the breeding and raising of cattle and horses.  The ranch consists of 8,000 acres of pasture and farm land.

Wood Ranch runs horned Hereford cows from the Waggoner Ranch and they breed to Angus bulls.  They also maintain a herd of Longhorn cows and breed 100 AQHA ranch horse mares each year, many originating from the W.T. Waggoner Estate.  Other broodmares owned by the Woods were bred on the ranch or were bred by the 6666's and R.A. Brown Ranch.

Wood Ranch mares are bred to outstanding ranch-owned stallions, including Shining King Cody and BP Smart Little Pep.  Shining King Cody, by Shining Spark, is an NCHA money-earner.  Horses from Wood Ranch have competed and won at the AQHA World Show, the All American Quarter Horse Congress, the AQHA Youth World Championships and all major state fairs.  Wood bred horses have also attained the distinction of AQHA Honor Roll horses.  New upcoming Sires Cat Proof by Highbrown Cat and out of Play Peek a boo.  Rey of De Playboy by Dual Rey Heidi's Playboy.
